Review of www.timrodaart.com 2/26/14
1. I notice that all your pieces have very powerful messages but are portrayed in a unique way.
2. Most of your photos are in black in white but when there is color is very bold.
3. I like how you work with shadows a lot, in some they are shadows showing something other than what is physically in the picture.
4. I noticed many of your photos are representing foreign countries.
5. You often incorporated children into your work. I found this interesting and powerful.
1. What is your reasoning for mostly using black and white?
2. What made you gradually progress from American cities to other places around the world?
3. Where do you get your inspiration and if so in what ways? What piece of your own inspires you the most?
4. Why did you choose to incorporate kids and sometimes babies in the pieces?
5. Are the names of your pieces and these places telling a story? Did you choose the names before or after the work was completed?
After Interview 2/26/14
After getting to know the artist more his work became very clear. He is very laid back and spontaneous which is exactly what his work portrayed. I liked how he said he conducted it not necessarily to get his point across specifically but in a way that allowed the audience to interpret it for themselves. I like this form of art more than certain simple things that do not really make sense unless you really over think them. He was extremely honest with his beliefs and opinions which I thought made his work come more alive once revisiting it. The technique of almost randomness yet still having such a strong impact does a lot for me. After getting to know him I appreciate him as an artist more and look forward to seeing his future work.

Grocery Store Pic
This is a picture of a grocery store with many shelves, stocked with a variety of items from cleaning supplies to soda, cereal to shampoo, cat and dog food, and even cleaning supplies. There are two people subtly shopping in the right side of the photograph. The picture has an emotionally impact based on comparison to the rest of the world. The overwhelming effects of the overabundance that is (presumably) in America or some developed commercialized country causes the viewer to be stressed, guilty, or concerned about their status in comparison to those less fortunate. The narrative effects of the photograph would have to be something along the line of consumerism and commercialism. The picture tells us that the shelves must have been recently stocked and leads the viewer to assume the shelves would be cleared soon after. Much like the calm before a storm, the perfectness and serenity of the photo creates expectations for disaster. It also causes the viewer to become hungry or begin to crave some of the items on the shelf. It is possible that this piece is a commentary on the recession, depicting an overabundance of items and very few consumers readily available to purchase (The two figures in the right could possibly be the one percent, perusing the shelves without competition). It even suggests the unnecessary variety of products available in stores, which is confusing and oftentimes unneeded.
Write ups on Groups
Damian Arbuckle- Movement didnt draw a focus but the rest was well done and accurate. Captioned meanings well overall.
Pasama's- Overall has strong pictures. Appealing to the eye. I really like the shape picture and emphisis was very unique.
Olivia-Jean- Emphasis could have been stronger could not really make the connection and out attention was not drawn to a certain point. The rest were pretty good but did not stick out to us as much as other groups.
Hazel, Ziona, Jesse- Variety was a little weak in portraying the meaning, could not really understand they're take on it. Harmony seemed like it would have worked better as their movement picture.
Honda, Arielle, Anthony- Shape could have been stronger. The rest were very good and easy to match up with the words.
Taylor- A little confusing in general. Mostly on form and value, could not really take out the definition from the photo this group chose.
Ryan Horvath Website
1. I liked the American theme you had with the photos. Some were much more subtle than other and some were blatant. A lot of red, white, and blue.
2. I noticed your work in general is very unique and each type of art you do are all very diverse.
3. I like how you titled your pieces. Some of straight forward while others you have to figure out where you are headed.
4. I noticed a lot of your work has a damaged feel to it. I like how its not all perfect.
5. The way you portray the meaning through your pieces is different. I like how it is not all straight forward but it may only mean something to you or someone else can create a different meaning for themselves.
1. Where does your inspiration come from?
2. Is there a reason you have so much movement in your photos.
3. I do not quite understand the foot sculpture but it intrigued me. Could you explain that and maybe where you got the idea.
4. What was the most difficult piece for you to create.
5. The picture of the eagle is very different from the rest of your photography. Is there a reason for this?
It seems as thought your art comes to as you do it. I like how you said youre favorite was what you were working on at the time because you like to move on from one once you are done with it. That it is in the past. I found it interesting how most of the themes the class was asking about or guessing you were going for were usually not what you were but they kind of just happened to end up that way. I also liked how the eagle picture was not so much you waiting around for that exact moment but you happened to be there at the time. It is less forced and seems more natural.

1. I noticed your pieces usually have a religious feel to them but are presented in a unique way.
2. Your art seems like is has a sense of oriental in the way they are presented. It reminds me architecture you would see in this part of the world.
3. I liked how your pieces always have multiple parts to them they are never just one work of art.
4. I like how you tend to mostly just use broken pieces which I thought was different.
5. Your ceramic reminded me of figurines and older works of art.
1. Where do you get your inspiration from?
2. Why do you focus so much on feet, I noticed that a lot in your work.
3. How and why do you tie religion into your work?
4. What is your most significant piece to you?
5. Is there a reason you make some of your pieces look oriental? Was this on purpose or was this how they turned out when you were done constructing them?
I found it interesting how there was not an oriental theme. I thought for sure he was going to tell us that he based a lot of his work off of that. I also liked his take on religion. Although a lot of his work is religious he isn't close minded about it. I also found it interesting how he was thinking a lot about family while making his art but you would no necessarily guess that by looking at his work. He has interesting explanations and I getting to know him more made me appreciate his artwork a lot more as well.
3/24/14 Rankings of Perspective Photos
5.Sophie and Anna- I liked the idea it was clever. The blurring of the background was a good idea and made it clear I also liked the panorama.
6. Ziona and Hazel- Strong photo I liked how it was unique. The editing was very detailed.
3. Taylor and - I really like the perspective the angle made the picture stronger and I liked how it was black and white.
8. Jesse and Maddy- A little confusing but a good idea. I liked the flies eye concept.
4. Olivia and Pasama- Clever and funny but the editing could have been better.
2. Ashley and Honda - Powerful and clever idea. The editing was very good and clear.
1. Dan and Anthony- Good idea had a unique take and I liked the editing. The picture was one which looked very clean.
7.Ricky and Scott- Good idea very simple. Could have angled the lines a little more to make it look more than just lines.
9.Stephanie and Kat- Had a good idea the editing could have been a little different or could have had it be the goalies perspective instead.
10.Damian and Arielle- A little confusing. A good concept but may have found a way to make the meaning a little clearer. Maybe taking the women out and keeping the statue.
Claire Sherwood
1. Why do you cover the faces? Is this to represent something and does the color have significance?
2. What made you want to create art that looks like objects that exist like the laundry?
3. What materials do you typically use?
4. What made you choose to do work on other objects?
5. Who is your inspiration? what is your favorite type of art?
1. I like how your work represents real things like the clothes. Its a unique take on making something that already exists and putting it into a different form.
2. I noticed a lot of your work looks almost like pastries or artwork people would do on cake which I thought was a unique take.
3. I like how your work can be used as decoration in our outside.
4. Each work of art you do includes a lot of detail which I found was nice to look at.
5. It seems you like to focus a lot on clothes or making other material look like cloth.
6. I noticed a theme in your artwork being very domestic. It seems it has a motherly feel to it all within the baking, laundry, firework, home decor, and the photography. I like this because I haven't seen anything like this yet.
After skyping with Claire I found her art work really portrayed who she was and how her life has gone. She better explained where she came form and why her work shows what it does. It matched her personality very well and she seemed very down to earth. She understood how some people may not see her work as "art" and she understands that but she she just does what she feels which I thought was nice to hear. She is a true artist. Something I found interesting that she said was that she started doing more feminine work because people were surprised but how masculine her work came off as. It seems interesting that she changed what she was doing just by what other people thought but I also feel it may have worked for her. She seems to like what she does and this feminine domestic feel seems to work for her and really fit what she is trying to do.
